City to Sea: Coney Island Community Project 2016 - 2018

Following their successful 2015 workshop, City to Sea returned to Coney Island, NY in September 2016 to begin work with the community at Coney Island Gospel Assembly on a 3 year-long project exploring life in Coney Island. Working with local people, the project aimed to tell stories about the environment, communities living in the neighborhood, and their recovery from Superstorm Sandy. The ongoing workshops resulted in a group photography exhibition of projects made by residents inspired by their community, coastline and culture of New York City. The show took place in New York in 2018 to coincide with the 6th anniversary of Superstorm Sandy, with the aim of being screened at the Urban Encounters Conference, at Tate Britain, London.
